BRITISH TV DOWN UNDER
There are over 5.5 million British passport holders permanently living overseas and almost 1.5 million of those living in Australasia. There are many great qualities about living in this far flung corner of the world, however great Television is not one of them. We are constantly receiving requests from Brits down under asking us the best way of connecting to UK TV services when in Australia and New Zealand*. Foxtel/Sky Satellite is one option, IPTV boxes are another, however we have found ourselves that VPN connections are the best option for cost and reliability.
When you have a VPN connection say installed on your smart phone, you will be able to switch stores, download UK TV applications and then stream them to your Television set using either ChromeCast or inbuilt streaming in your smart TV set. Many Brits use TV Catchup applications for watching all of the freeview UK channels streaming live such as Beeb1, 2, 3, 4, ITV, C4 C5, Dave, Netfl!x etc*. You can also download the on demand services offered by all of the major UK TV broadcasters (radio also).
A VPN is basically (for those that don’t already know) a connection to the internet, but ‘tunneled’ via a secure 100% anonymous VPN server located in the United Kingdom, United States or other location, so that your device will then sit behind and appear to have a UK IP address instead of a UK one. VPN connections now easily install on all laptops, Macs, tablets, smart phones and most smart TV boxes, potentially giving you all British, American and European Television and radio services that would otherwise be blocked to you when overseas*.
